The freshwater River Kamniška Bistrica with its source deep beneath the mountains of Kamnik Alps is the homeground of our Fishing Association, which was established in Domžale in 1954. Today Bistrica Domžale Fishing Association manages more than 400 kilometres of freshwater rivers, with popular Brown trout (lat. Salmo trutta fario), Rainbow trout (lat. Oncorhynchus mykiss), also called the Redband trout (lat. Salmo gairdneri) and Grayling (lat. Thymallus thymallus).

Kamniška Bistrica with its subsidiary streams Nevljica, Pšata, Mlinščica and Rača is full of these beautiful fighting fish specimens. This has been proven by both many domestic and foreign fly sport fishermen with large recorded catches.

We are especially proud of our 16 fish ponds and 2 lakes, Gradiško jezero (Lukovica) and Jezero Pristava (Mengeš). There you can catch huge Carp (lat. Cyprinus carpio), Pike (lat. Esox lucius), Zander (lat. Sander lucioperca), Chub (lat. Leuciscus cephalus), Sheat fish (lat. Silurus glanis), Tench (lat. Tinca tinca) and many others.

The Bistrica Domžale Fishing Association is proud of the fact that the fish population in our fishing locations is increasing, especially the numbers of the native Brown trout, which is very popular here and numerous other freshwater fishes.
